Mr. Gonzo Bunny-Ears is ever so helpful in the kitchen. He has picked this skill up from his big foster brother Chick, who is always willing to help clean up– whether the excess be on the floor, in a bowl, stuck to the back of a spoon, or dripping down mom’s leg.
Gonzo was not a natural kitchen-dweller when he first came to us, but he sure did learn fast. As long as there is a dog bed nearby from which both wonderdogs can watch all the action, both Gonzo and brother Chick will lay obediently in their assigned spot instead of getting underfoot. With one exception:
Something about the sound of the hand mixer sends a signal to their brains — and a pavlovian response kicks in, forcing them to leap out of their spot and bound over to where I am standing, butts wiggling out of control.

chicks eyes in that last picture are GREAT!
they both take their jobs very seriously! especially chick in that second picture. ha!
Isn’t it nice to have such willing helpers in the kitchen? 😉
Reggie is the same way! He’ll wait on his mat while I’m in the kitchen, but when the timer beeps, he’ll jump up and run over to see what I’m taking out of the oven.
It always impresses me how you manage to get a fantastic picture, of both dogs, while one hand is completely occupied.
Being a kitchen dweller sure is worth it

I agree with Alana, you must be very coordinated!
How cute these two are. No chef should have to work without a canine in the kitchen!
The mixers are the best part of any clean up duty! 🙂
LOVE Chick’s eyes. LOVE ‘EM! Koly and Fe are never usually more than a couple steps from me when we are in that kitchen room. Of course, I could never hold beaters, control pups AND get a picture. You must be Superwoman.
I love that first picture’s vantage point because it shows just how diminutive Gonzo is. I hardly ever use the beaters, so I can’t say my dogs have a similar response!
Yeah, I love that too. It’s hard to tell in the second photo, but Gonzo is standing up on his tippy toes to gain competitive advantage!!
I love when our dogs can actually do our chores for us! And what were you cooking?
we were baking vegan carrot cake cupcakes with ginger-cardamom icing for a friend’s birthday! yum!
I have never seen those things before in my life. My mom doesn’t do a lotta baking around here. I’m very much deprived. The only thing I gets to help out by licking is my mom’s legs when she gets outta the shower.
Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie

The kitchen is one of Tommy’s favorite places too, but he’s never seen a hand mixer. Those cupcakes sound delicious! I’ll have to try making some and see how Tommy reacts to the sound. I bet he’ll get that crazed look in his eyes just like Chick in the second photo. I’m very familiar with that look. It always cracks me up.
