No no, don’t worry. I’m not leaving blogland, I’m just leaving Merry-land!
Yep, that’s right friends, I’ve been without my cowboy ways for long enough, and I told my people that it’s time to go home — to Texas. Come September’s end I’ll be packing up my cowdog boots and pearl snap shirts and heading west for my motherland.
I can’t wait to sit on dad’s head while I smell that Hill Country air:
I’m also excited to do a lot of back-porch sitting in that warm Texas sun:
So I put my paw down, and we’re on our way!ย So here’s a list of who’s coming along.
These two:
And this one (can you see how miserable I am in the cold?):
But do you know who just got to my house yesterday but isย NOT coming with us to the Great State? This one:
As much as we’d love to bring her along, Lady Zabora is a Washingtonian through and through, and she can’t come. I guess that means we’ll have to hurry up and find her perfect new family before we leave. Do you know anybody who might be looking for their very own Little Zee?
Chick now Texas is much closer to Oklahoma than Merry=land! Maybe I will get to meet you in person someday! Tell Mom and Dad I promise I won’t try to take you home with me ๐
awwww! that’s far far away! Wonder if we’ll ever get to meet in person afterall. Luna’s brother lives in texas though, so maybe we’ll make it there one day. Hope the selling of the house goes well, and the placing of lady Z.

How exciting!! Where in TX are you moving to? we might be neighbors…we’re in Irving, just outside of Dallas. I hope the move goes smoothly AND the home finding of that lovely lady ๐
Yay for moving!!! We’re thinking of visiting Austin over our spring break (along with a few other Texas towns our other friends live in)….maybe Chick, Turk, and Rufus can finally meet? ๐
I lived in Texas – just outside of Dallas and then Galveston. Hope you’re ready for that heat and humidity, Chick! Your mommy and daddy are the cutest couple! Almost as cute as you. I hope Lady Z finds a forever home very soon!! Nice backpack, by the way!!
I lived in Houston & then a little town called Splendora, which is close to Cleveland, before settling in the Great Smoky Mnts of TN. My Dad is in Hemphill & Sis is in Plum Grove. Where in Texas are you going to move w/ your Mom & Dad? I can see why you would want to leave the cold behind ,Sir Chick, but it even snows in Texas…sometimes! I can’t wait to hear more about Lady Z’s stay at your place. Have a grrrreat Labor Day Weekend!
Giddyup Chick! The Lone Star State misses you. Even though Lady Z can’t come along, I know that you’ll be a great foster bro to all of the dogs who need you out there.
Can’t wait to hear more about Z’s foster homecoming.
BTW – when you get settled I have a friend in rescue work in Houston you might be interested in talking to. She covers all of TX! I wonder if you can combine forces somehow. Here’s a sneak peak at what she does. (She’ll be on Shine soon. ๐ )

You should make another visit to Baltimore before you leave, Chick!!! The East coast sure will miss you!
Sooo sad. So so sad! MCHS will miss you like crazy. Although I’m also insanely jealous.. I would love to transplant to TX. Fun fact: I’m embracing casual Fridays and wore my cowboy boots to work today! Haha.
LOVE that picture of Z! Her Sirius collar brings out the orange in her eyes ๐
Hey Chick! I just moved to Texas too! What part are you moving back too? With the way te heat is going, it should still be hot when you get out here at the end of the month!!
Hi Anne, I’m moving back to Austin, where I’m from. Where do you live?
I just moved to Temple, which is an hour or so north of Austin. I just left California to come here for work and left my boyfriends and his pit in CA. I’m looking to adopt and have loved following you guys and learning all about everything you talk about ๐
Can’t wait to meet all the adora-bull fosters you’ll come across in Texas! Good luck on your move.
Very exciting! Every winter we dream of moving someplace warmer; we’re excited to hear more about Austin. And I think so many people are cheering for Lady Z, she’ll find a great home in DC.
Wow, what a big change for you! Best of luck in the move!
Aw, you guys are leaving?! Tear. But congrats, that is happy news for you and your adorable family!
MIXED FEELINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I know that you guys will be happy there and that’s really all that matters! We have to get together a few more times before the end of the month!
Sounds like a great time down south! My parents went to Merryland for a vacation in April to see the Yankees… I was left home.

Chick! You’re going to TEXAS? My mom and dad lived in that Texas place for 7 years and my Brudder Ranger came from there, too! I hear tell it’s a whole lot warmer down in them thar parts. (That’s what mom says they talk like…heehee.) I’m sorry you can’t take Lady Zabora but maybe she’ll write.
Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie
How exciting! A move! That’s coming up soon!
How AWESOME!

We’ll miss you, neighbor! We’ll keep trying to rescue as many MD pitties as possible in your honor. I wonder what most of the TX shelter pooches are…in NM it was all chow mixes! You’ll have to keep us posted–and I’m glad we’ll always have your blog!
Come on down! But could you bring some rain with you? Glad to hear y’all are heading this way. You obviously already have a ton of Texan fans ๐
Aw, Chick does look miserable in the cold, lol. I hope you guys have a smooth move!
That’s a big move! If you have to move to TX, I suppose Austin is really the only way to do it. Lady Z looks wonderful, healthy and happy and settled. September is her month!
I hear they do things BIG in Texas. Say, I bet you get some good Texas beef too, eh? Yes, I say this is a good thing. Plus the warmth. You can not under-estimate the importance of good sun.
Great photos! Great dogs!
Movinโ to Texas where the livinโ is easy and where everythinโs big! Woopy!
Youโre going to love it, Iโm sure but I canโt wait to hear about all your adventures in the moving process and your impressions when you first get there.
I have a close friend from childhood in Austin. If you like, I’ll get him to fly you around in his plane. (Not a commercial pilot– he owns a four-seater, I believe. You couldn’t get ME in a tin can like that for anything, but maybe you’re the adventurous type!)
I was more likely to visit DC than Texas, but I really do hope to make it there one day. Good luck with the move, looking forward to the new exploits, and I’m sure Lady Z will be well taken care of!
Have fun guys!
