Gonzo’s favorite things: helping

Mr. Gonzo Bunny-Ears is ever so helpful in the kitchen. He has picked this skill up from his big foster brother Chick, who is always willing to help clean up– whether the excess be on the floor, in a bowl, stuck to the back of a spoon, or dripping down mom’s leg.

Gonzo was not a natural kitchen-dweller when he first came to us, but he sure did learn fast. As long as there is a dog bed nearby from which both wonderdogs can watch all the action, both Gonzo and brother Chick will lay obediently in their assigned spot instead of getting underfoot. With one exception:

Something about the sound of the hand mixer sends a signal to their brains — and a pavlovian response kicks in, forcing them to leap out of their spot and bound over to where I am standing, butts wiggling out of control.

Happy Easter / Gonzo’s breed report

Well, just in time for Easter, we got the results of Gonzo’s breed report!

It’s fascinating, really, and just confirms what we’ve known all along. See for yourselves:

a game for you, readers.

You know that fun game in which you look at two pictures and try to figure out what is different between them? Sometimes in the newspaper it’s a drawing of two city scenes or maybe a jungle, and you have to identify a monkey that has a tail in one photo and doesn’t have one in another? Alternately, they used to have a similar game at seedy bars on these weird bar-top computers, and the images you were comparing were two scantily-clad ladies?

Well, let’s play that game. I’ll give you a couple of big clues. First, there really is only one difference between these two photos, although they are different photos. And second, Gonzo is a VERY messy water drinker and we are always amazed at the sprinkling of water all over the kitchen after he is through.

Good luck!

smells like springtime

Well, springtime is officially here. Mr. Gonzo Bunny-Ears doesn’t mind cold weather, but he really loves when it’s warm and sunny out. On days like this Sunday, when it was in the high 60s and sunny, he spent the day lounging and running around on the deck and in the yard, taking in the sights and smells of springtime. Even when he’s inside, he likes to sit right by the screen door and gently sniff the air when the breeze wafts in. Bonus points if he gets to sit right next to his big brother during the lookout.

a tongue-bath standoff

Gonzo and Chick decided that they each needed a bath, but they both hate the bathtub. So they had the brilliant idea of giving each other a bath instead. A tongue bath.

gonzo’s girlfriend

Gonzo has a girlfriend! She is a labradoodle, and she’s very fancy.

As it turns out, Gonzo loves stuffed animals. Come to think of it, he loves all toys. He likes to toss them in the air and then pounce on them, and to prance around proudly with them in his mouth. His favorite game of all time is “chase” — in which he is the chasee and you are the chaser. When he is feeling rompy, he will scamper about until he finds the nearest toy, pick it up, and approach you with a very cute and very devious look in his mouth — almost as if he is daring you to follow. The second you make a motion or take a step toward him, he whirls in place, and goes bounding away, stopping just before he’s out of sight to make sure you’re coming. He loves this game. But he also loves his girlfriend, Claudette.
